I received a Sempervivum heuffelii Coral Reef from Mountain Crest Gardens in February 2026. According to Mountain Crest:
"Sempervivum heuffelii 'Coral Reef' (Ford): A gorgeous (and hard to find) cultivar with a unique coloration. This outdoor succulent changes color dramatically, from a vibrant cerise to a dreamy blue-green. It offsets every year and can eventually develop into a dense, tidy cluster."
The one I received is mostly green with red tips. Spring and summer sun should bring out the colors of this variety, but this one didn't make it that far. I moved it to the greenhouse and it froze when the temperature dropped to 6. Although Sempervivums are said to be hardy to at least -20, this was in a small pot and perhaps wasn't dry enough to survive.

Care Guide: Sempervivums need at least six hours of outdoor sunlight to show their best colors and maintain a tight rosette form, but may need to be shaded during the hottest part of the day. They thrive in gritty, well-draining soils and pots with drainage holes. They need to be allowed to dry out completely between waterings to avoid root rot. Sempervivums are very cold-hardy perennials, with Coral Reef rated for Zone 4, -30F.
